The key to integration in your local community is a good command of the language. Please don't join the group of Anglophones - a group already too large - who speak little French, even after several years in France.

And when your children start using French at the dining table, as a secret language that their parents can't understand, you've got a problem.

You are budgeting for an expensive move , for legal fees, for house renovation. Our experience is that if you economise on French lessons it's a mistake in terms of your integration into the local community.

Our advice: take intensive French lessons in France, a 1:1 course for 2 weeks, followed by regular private weekly lessons for a year. And budget for that.

Integration is much more fun; more satisying and enriching.
